American West Heritage Farm

In June Kevin had his 10th High School Reunion. For those who don't know, Kevin went to Sky View High School right here in Smithfield. One of the activities was to take your family to the American West Heritage Center. It was really fun. The Heritage Center is a historical working farm. Everything at the farm resembles what life was like at the turn of the century. The people who work the farm are all in clothing from the period. They use tools from that time to work the farm so it is all authentic.

Lillian got a pony ride but Isabelle was a little wary of the pony. Isn't she a cute cowgirl? A cowgirl in pink sunglasses.

We went into the barn to look at this turkey and the sheep that were in there. The turkey was huge! Just wait unitl Thanksgiving buddy.

The girls loved seeing all the animals especially the "stinky pigs!" as Lillian kept calling them. The animal Lillian wanted to see the most were the pigs. I think she was a little disappointed when she realized how smelly they were.

Isabelle was very interested in the pigs too. I was a little worried she was going to climb in with them.

Lillian wasn't too sure about the goats but she petted them anyway. I thought they were really cute, especially the baby ones. Once after visiting the heritage farm Kevin and our friend Chris Davis, (Betsy's husband) said they never really visited the heritage farm because you could go to your friend's house and see the same animals. Welcome to Cache Valley! I guess I am just a city girl.

While at the Heritage Center we also got to go for a ride in the wagon. Lillian had a hard time believing us when we told her people used to ride in wagons because there didn't used to be any cars. No cars? I realized she and Isabelle will grow up in a world with so much technology. Cell phones, iPods, the internet, digital cameras, computers, and on and on. It's fun to visit a place like the Heritage Center to remind you of a simpler time but also to make you grateful for modern conviences!
