New York Day 1 - Palmyra

The first day in New York we went drove up to Palmyra. Sarah took out her endowments and we went through the session with her. A member of the temple president who is a family friend of Sarah's gave us a tour and told us the meaning of some of the stained glass windows. The designer/maker of the windows made these beautiful trees each, symbolic.
After the temple we had lunch at this little pizza place in Palmyra. We had the best Buffalo chicken pizza ever; I'm still thinking about it, yum. After that fabulous lunch we went to the Brandin building where the first Book of Mormon was printed and we learned all about that.
Then we went to the Smith Farm. We first visited the log cabin the Smith Family built when they first came to Palmyra. This is where Joseph was visited by Angel Moroni.

Down this path is the second home the Smith family moved into in Palmyra. Alvin Smith was building it when he passed away. After his death they finished it and moved in. 90% of the home is original.
This is the view of the temple from the Smith home. The site for the temple was originally part of the Smith farm.

Daniel and Bertha, Me and Kevin, my mom and dad, Michael and Sarah. We are on the Smith farm, you can kind of see the Temple in the background.
This is on the Smith Farm, close by the entrance to the Sacred Grove. Isn't it beautiful? It was humid and muggy that day, but I loved the humidity.
This is right at the entrance to the Sacred Grove.

They don't know the exact location of where the First Vision took place. The grove is large and looks very much like it did when Joseph Smith entered it so many years ago. It started raining in the grove, but because it the vegetation was so dense we didn't feel the raindrops, it just felt like mist. The Sacred Grove is beautiful and peaceful. Everything you imagine it to be. It is special and lovely and sacred.
While in the Grove it started pouring. Look at how huge the raindrops are and this is under the canopy of the trees. We were absolutely drenched. There were rivers running down the path, it was crazy!

After Palmyra we went to the Whitmer Farm in Fayette. This is where a lot of the translation of the Book of Mormon took place. There was a beautiful visitor center along with the house and farm.
We were there in early evening and it was perfect. It had just stopped raining, it was humid and a little misty; perfect. I think I could seriously live here.

Perfect isn't it?
