New York Day 2- Kirtland, Ohio

We drove to Kirtland, Ohio on Wednesday. It was a beautiful drive through New York, Pennsylvania, and then to Ohio. I can't believe how rural it is back East. I've always thought it would be more urban but it is really quite rural and lovely. I mean look how green and lush it is?
The Church has done an amazing job of recreating the village of Kirtland. This is inside the Newell K. Whitney store where they held the School of the Prophets. It is a beautiful spirit that is there.

This is the home of the Whitney's. We found out a lot about the years of the Church in Kirtland. The Whitney Family was instrumental in helping the Church move forward and grow. They owned most of the businesses in Kirtland and then they left it all to move with the Church; amazing.
This is near the saw mill owned by Newell K. Whitney. They used it to cut the lumber for the Temple. Isn't just beautiful there? Think of leaving that. What must they have thought when after all their moving around they moved to the deserts of Utah?
Daniel, Bertha, Kevin, Candace, Michael, my Dad, my Mom.
We had the best time together. I'm so glad we were all able to be there. We were missing Steven but we had so much fun!
After lunch we headed to the Kirtland Temple. It is owned by the RLDS church. It was really neat to see but it definitely had a different spirit about it than the village of Kirtland had. It felt cold - not temperature wise, because it was blazing hot; it was just missing something.

I loved Kirtland but it was the most humid, hot day of the whole trip. When you walked outside it hit you. You felt like you were breathing in water. It was so weird. I kind of liked it. I didn't feel like my skin was drying out. The air was soft. I know I'm crazy but I like the humidity.

So on the trip I kind of playfully made fun of my family, but we did it to each other. Well to be funny they stuck their tour stickers on my back without me knowing. I was walking around with all these stickers on my back.On the map that we saw that we were near Amish Country, well we had to see them. On our way to stalk the poor Amish we stopped by the John Johnson home.
The John Johnson home was where Joseph and Emma Smith stayed for a while before Kirtland. There were sections of the Doctrine and Covenants revealed in this home. It was also the home where the mob came to tar and feather Joseph. Because the door was left open their adopted twin son, who had the measles, died soon after. We didn't set out to see this home but we were so glad we did. It had an amazing spirit.
It was remarkable to be in a place where so much happened and so much was sacrificed.

Well we found the Amish and even though we tried to act mature, we acted like a bunch of crazy school girls. And I wasn't the only one. Don't try to deny it. We were all freaking out. "Oh there is a buggy! Do you see it! Oh my gosh!"
We saw Amish children playing, who were adorable. We saw a whole group of Amish playing a baseball game. I don't think it would be so bad to be Amish; well at least some aspects. I mean if you don't have the computer or TV then you think of other ways to entertain yourself; like baseball. It was peaceful and quiet in Amish country. I could live with that. Although I would miss running water, electricity, my air conditioner/heater, the list could go on and on. Maybe I will just turn off the TV more...
We stopped at an Amish store. There was even an Amish couple out on a date. Kevin went to go and check out the buggy. I thought he was a little bold so I took his picture instead of going with him. The Amish are just so interesting aren't they?
